 Volunteer for Tri-CAP Board of Directors.  The agency is governed by an 18 member volunteer Board of Directors.  One third of the Board is elected officials; one third is representatives of the low income and one third are public-at-large positions.  These dedicated volunteers set policy for the agency and meet on a monthly basis.

Transportation Drivers

Volunteer drivers provide rides using their own private vehicles to the residents of Benton. Stearns and Morrison counties. Passengers are assigned to volunteers by the Tri-CAP dispatch center and may be traveling to medical appointments or a variety of other destinations. Volunteer drivers are reimbursed at the Federal IRS rate and may also be eligible for some meal reimbursements. Volunteer drivers provide an important service. To quote one of our volunteers "It's a good feeling being a volunteer driver." Call for an application if you would like to have the same "good feeling."

Individual Tax Preparer and Site Assistants

 

Volunteers are needed at the St. Cloud VITA Free Tax site locations to assist as individual tax preparers, site assistants, financial coaches, marketing and more. Tax preparers are responsible for completing individual tax returns for low-income individuals and families. Tax preparers are required to attend 14 hours of training and complete a test as required by the IRS in order to be certified prior to volunteering. There is an all day training session offered from 8 am – 3 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2012 with three evening sessions on Jan. 23, 24 and 25, 2012. If a volunteer cannot attend those sessions, alternate training is available.  Free Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits are available.  Click here for consumer information.

Site specialists will greet customers, assist with the sign-in process and insure the tax site runs smoothly.  There will be a two hour training session for Tax Site Specialists . Volunteers are needed for 4 hour shifts available on Tuesdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Wednesdays from 4:00 to 8 pm, Thursdays from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. The tax service runs from the end of January to mid April. St. Cloud area locations include Salvation Army, St. Cloud Technical College and Catholic Charities.  Volunteers can commit to the entire season or help with a number of shifts.  We ask volunteers to commit to at least one 4-hour shift per week. Click here for the application
